Emergency Defined

A serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action.

Easier said than recognized, right? Some animal health emergencies are obvious, while others are subtle leaving you to wonder what you should do. In these cases, it is best to remember that old saying, “Better safe than sorry.”

The truth of the matter is that no one knows your pet better than YOU! If you believe your pet is uncomfortable, sick, or injured, please don’t hesitate to bring him or her in for an evaluation and allow us to be their unspoken voice of reason.


Common Emergency Situations

  • Bite wounds, puncture and lacerations
  • Vaccine induced reactions or anaphylactic reactions
  • Bleeding (nose bleeds, bleeding from soft tissue masses, etc.)
  • Respiratory distress (panting, labored breathing, nasal discharge, excessive sneezing / coughing)
  • Collapse or fainting
  • Change in behavior
  • Excessive scratching / itching, skin infections and other skin lesions
  • Seizures, muscle spasms, incoordination, disoriented
  • Consecutive bouts of vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Trouble giving birth
  • Difficulty walking, paralysis / paresis or other leg lameness
  • Ingestion of toys or toxins / medications not currently prescribed
  • Trauma / hit by a car
  • Difficulty urinating / defecating, inappropriate urinating
  • Excessive drinking and/or eating habits
  • Eye issues (excessive blinking, pawing at face and eyes, ocular discharge, unable to open eye(s), vision impairment)
  • Not eating or drinking
  • Foul odor from the mouth, excessive drooling
  • Head tilt, excessive head shaking and/or ear scratching, swolle

The initial emergency examination by our veterinarian will allow us to assess the best treatment plan and prognosis for your pet.

We offer a clean, comfortable facility for your pet. The doctor on duty supervises treatments and monitors your pet’s progress.

Medical Facilities

Offering your pet the most optimal care, our hospital is equipped to perform advanced on site diagnostic laboratory testing. We can achieve immediate results in hematology, chemistry and radiology.

Surgery

Animal Focus Vet has a wide range of surgical procedures can also be performed at our hospitals. Repair of lacerations, removal of a foreign body (swallowed toys, bones, etc.) and caesarean sections are among those frequently performed.

Medical Fees

An examination fee will be charged for an exam performed by the doctor. Upon examination an estimate of diagnostic charges and medical treatment will be provided after the initial examination. A deposit of 75% of the estimate is required for all hospitalized patients. All fees are due in full when the patient is released. We accept Checks, Cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and CareCredit.

Patient Discharge

Pets leaving the hospital will either be taken home or transferred to your primary care veterinarian for continued care. In both situations, a copy of your medical record is sent to your veterinarian to be included in your pet’s permanent record. We stress that proper follow-up care is of great importance to a successful outcome in all cases.

Patients must be picked up by 7:30 am.
